Notes - Lawrence Richard Stansberry, or Lon as he was known to all friends and family, was destined to become one of Tulsa's strongest boosters and a builder of Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma, literally, constructing many of the town's early buildings.
Lon was 11 years old when he came to Tulsa and was educated in the old Presbyterian Mission School. At the age of 16 years, Lon went to work in the Lynch Brothers store as a collector for a salary of $12 per month and board. "After rounding up the farmers over the country for awhile, Mr. Lynch decided he would have to put me in the store if I was to keep on living, as the farmers were about ready to get my scalp," Lon said. Lynch sold to C. Gamble Mercantile Company and Lon "went along with the invoice at a small figure." He worked for Gamble for two years.
On 30 December 1900, Lon Stansbery married Miss Myrtle Pruitt. The ceremony was one of the first performed by Rev. C. W. Kerr, the new pastor of the First Presbyterian Church.
