!INFORMATION: He and his brothers averaged six feet in height, hisheight being six feet and half an inch. His posture was erect, hisfeatures well formed, of the Grecian rather than the Roman type; hisocmplexion fair with a peach-bloom tinge, his facial expressioncheerful and pleasant; his manner, though dignified, was cordial andwinning, making all feel easy in his presence.
!While employed in Falmouty, near Fredericksburg, in December 1799, heheard first hand from a herald the news of George Washington's death.
!Joseph commanded a company at Norfolk, Virginia, during the War of1812; in later years he became known as Colonel Joseph Mauzy. He wasa member of the Virginia Legislature during James Monroe's presidency;in 1828 he was a Presidential Elector ont he ticket of President JohnQuincy Adams. As a magistrate, he served serval terms, withoutcompensation, as a member of the county court, and later acceptedappointment as County Surveyor.
